Facts You Need to Know About Dental Emergencies

Dental injuries are often quite painful and may bleed as well. However, not all dental problems are considered emergencies. For example, a toothache, a frequently fallen-out tooth, a chipped tooth, are all considered serious dental problems. But simple dental issues like tooth sensitivity to cold or hot drinks can be checked by a dentist during your off day.

In any case, do not hesitate to call Complete Dental Health LLC to get your teeth looked at.

When Does a Dental Emergency Occur?

Car accidents, sports injuries, accidents that occur from work, falling off your bike, or even tripping and falling can also lead to dental emergencies. If dental injuries are not treated immediately, they can lead to more serious dental health problems. So contact your dentist immediately if you experience direct trauma to your teeth, mouth, or gums.

Tips to Follow When a Dental Emergency Occurs

Until you reach the dentist there are a few things that you need to do, like:

  • In case of a cracked or chipped tooth, cleanse your mouth by rinsing with warm water.  You should ensure that you don’t swallow a piece of the tooth.
  • If your jaws get fractured or broken, you can apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
  • If your tooth or pieces of a tooth get lost, then gather up all the missing pieces before heading to the dentist. In some cases, the dentist may be able to put back the lost tooth.
  • When a tooth gets knocked out, visit a dentist within an hour of the incident. Before then, you can either put the loose tooth back in the tooth’s socket or place it in warm water with a pinch of salt.
  • For a bitten tongue or lip, apply pressure via cold compress. You should visit a hospital in case of heavy bleeding.
  • If your braces get stuck in the tongue, cheek, or gum tissue, never try to pull it out yourself. Seek immediate treatment from your dentist.
  • A sudden toothache or abscess is perhaps the result of something trapped in your gums. Gently floss that area and wash with warm water.
